Ichthystick FAQs
Have questions about our electronic fish measurement board? Search here, or reach out to our team and we will be happy to answer any question you have.
How do I connect to download data?
The board can be purchased with either a USB-A or RS-232 connection. Ichthysticks are also compatible with Bluetooth devices that support the Serial Port Profile (SPP). This includes Windows, Mac, and Linux-based computers as well as most Android devices.
How does the data download to my device?
The data downloads to a CSV. File in your file directory, which can be uploaded and customized to your specific data logging software.
How do I power the board?
Each board purchase includes a 12V power adapter with a Type-A plug. This plugs into the barrel jack on the board. If needed, a top-post terminal can be supplied to attach directly to a 12V battery.
Is the board water resistant or waterproof?
While the board is waterproof, it is only rated to 1 meter of depth. This means it can be dropped into the water but cannot handle depth or prolonged exposure to submersion. However, the board and digital display can withstand the spray, water, and rough conditions experienced on deck.
How heavy is the Ichthystick?
The series of Ichthysticks weighs between 15 lbs. and 19 lbs., depending on the size.
Do I need to calibrate the Ichthystick?
Yes, a calibration is needed before use. The Ichthystick calibration process is simple and can be done in under five minutes using the Sexton-supplied stylus and guide displayed on the LCD-Display.
How long are the fish that I can measure on each board?
The size of each board (60cm, 85cm, & 100cm) indicates the maximum fish size you can measure on each board. The magnetic strip, which communicates with the stylus, ends at the last number on each board (indicated by the black box, as shown in the picture above).
How do I mount the board to my vessel?
Each Ichthystick has four 3/4" through holes and 6-10 1/4-20" counter-sunk holes for mounting.
